The reality often falls short of the image, a phenomenon that is common in many cases. My sadness stems from where things have gone awry. ![]() The materials used were also disturbing. The seats were literally on the floor, and my legs ended up almost fully extended, much like one would expect in a sports car. I liked the Mark VII's sharper looks, but having recently been in one, I was shocked by the front seating position. As a 1969 Mark III owner, it was disheartening to see the Mark Series decline without much fanfare. ![]() As stated earlier, this is not how you lead; rather, it's how you follow. With a few tweaks, these issues are fixable, but they illustrate the state of quality and materials deemed acceptable for an American luxury car that should have been iconic, yet ended up being merely adequate. Ford had made significant improvements, but this example shows obvious misaligned trim at the left rear trunk to rear quarter, which is not repeated on the right. The Mark VIII was a product of its time, with both pros and cons stylistically speaking.
